Why School Support Matters

More than 314,000 children and adolescents in the US are living with Type-1 Diabetes, and that number continues to grow.

Because children spend a significant amount of time at school, diabetes management doesn’t stop when they enter the classroom. Students may require blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, support with insulin pumps & CGMs, and immediate treatment of hypoglycemia or other diabetes-related emergencies.

The CDC recommends that school personal responsible for a student with diabetes understands the student’s individualized Diabetes Medical Management Plan, and that trained backup staff be available to assist with diabetes care.

Education and preparation give school staff the confidence to respond appropriately—helping students with Type 1 diabetes stay safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Our education-driven school support services equip nurses and school staff with the knowledge and confidence to safely support students with Type-1 diabetes. Training includes diabetes management, high/low blood sugar treatment, emergency preparedness, parent communication, and essential school-based resources. Participants who complete the training receive a Certification of Completion.
